Canaima Amazon Gin
Canaïma Gin is produced in Venezuela is produced at DUSA’s distillery, Canaima gin features 18 botanicals, of which 10 are exotic botanicals native to the Amazon. As its name suggests, Canaïma is a national park located in the Venezuelan state of Bolivar in Amazonia. The selection of herbs and fruits for the Canaïma Gin was made in collaboration with Amazonian communities, who are involved in the careful harvesting and foraging within the rainforest.
Botanicals include:
Merey, a.k.a. Cashew, Açaí, Uva de palma, Túpiro (Amazonian citrus fruit), Seje, Copoazú, Juniper, lemon peel, orange peel, coriander, angelica root, fennel.
Taste profile:
Nose
A citrus-fresh, and fruit-loaded bouquet welcomes you. A hint of spice / juniper can be sensed as well.
Palate and aftertaste
Opens with spicy freshness. Warming and rich in taste, but not heavy nor too earthy. The fruit and depth of the gin comes through here - akin to a classic gin with a rich and complex depth of flavours as you taste it.
Creating and distilling the gin is a rather tedious process - The botanicals are separately macerated in neutral grain alcohol and are distilled separately as well in a 500 litre copper still. Afterwards the separate distillates are combined to create the final flavour profile.
Serving recommendation:
Great when paired with grapefruit soda and a splash of tonic
